Our client based in Port Elizabeth, SA requires a Millwright to
provide specialist advice and co-ordination of Electrical Activities and manage performance of Electricians
Job Role: Millwright
Location: Port Elizabeth
Overview of the role:
- Operates industrial machinery found in construction sites, factories, power plants, and other sectors. Duties include installing equipment, repairing items, and transferring machinery to needed locations
Purpose of the Role
- To assist in managing all Engineering activities, purchasing of engineering spares and consumables for the company
- Ensure that all machines operate properly, and the facilities remain safe.
Education:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
- Government Certificate of Competency : Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years Engineering Management experience
- Minimum 2 years plant maintenance experience.
- Minimum 2 years Project Management experience.
- Proven experience in similar role and industry.
- Computer literate
- An apprenticeship program.
- An associate degree in industrial maintenance.
- Completed an accredited Millwright certificate or training program.
- Occupational health and safety regulations and related safety measures, including specific regulations depending on the industry, region, or province.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Good at adhering to strict safety guidelines and cognizant of safety risks
- Mechanical aptitude in dealing with wrenches, hammers, forklifts, and other similar tools.
- Working knowledge of mechanical technical skills to allow them to effectively read documents such as specifications, machine manuals, and blueprints.
- Proficient in troubleshooting techniques to solve machine issues.
- Excellent mathematical skills and strong attention to detail
- Ability to be a team player due to constant interactions with similar employees and stakeholders such as Engineers, Plant Managers, and Part Vendors, amongst others.
- Exposure to purchasing and stores management.
- Strong Leadership & Communication skills
Operational KPIs:
- By maintaining and repairing equipment ensure to keep the production shift efficiencies ahead of 85%
- Manage and run the preventative maintenance schedule to ensure all equipment is well maintained.
- Implement energy efficiencies in the facility to ensure we achieve our electricity targets.
- Optimal machine output to limit manufacturing variance for the facility.
- Maintain and run the engineering stores to ensure sufficient spares are always available
Key Areas of Responsibility:
- As the site responsible engineer in terms of South African Law ensure full compliance with the requirements of the OHS act 85 of 1993 and it’s regulations and any related legislation.
- Ensure that the company is kept informed of changes and proposed changes to legislation and the implications for the company.
- Champion the following elements of Manufacturing Excellence: Maintenance Excellence,
- Overhaul Excellence, Project Excellence.
- To assist with all site Maintenance activities, including the annual site overhauls, within the ABR to deliver maximum OEE via a predictive and preventative maintenance policy.
- To manage the asset life plan for the site and use root cause analyses to identify cost effective ways to improve the engineering utility of the site.
- Prepare and manage the capital programme.
- Identify and approve resources that meet the company SHE, quality and cost requirements to carry out maintenance & project work on the site.
- Provide overall project management, project engineering to capital and maintenance work including overall SHE Responsibility for all engineering contractors working on site.
Manage the purchasing of Engineering spares & consumables via an external third party
company.
- Manage and control the operation of the Engineering & Engineering consumable store.
- Maintain housekeeping standards throughout the organisation
- Ensure constructive consulation between production and engineering.
- Assembling and installing machines then testing them to make sure they are working correctly.
- Must work in full compliance with the approved safety regulations.
- Managing the layout and placement of equipment and machinery in factory settings to ensure minimum downtime.
- Identifying and repairing problematic parts of a machine by running tests, making temporary repairs, or installing new parts.
- Dismantling older machines and replacing them with new ones.
- Repair broken or defective machine parts, using welding and brazing tools.
- Overseeing preventive maintenance by identifying and correcting potential issues,
- removing worn out pieces and lubricating mechanical parts.
- Using machinery or equipment, such as forklifts, to move mechanical parts.
- Disassemble and reassemble equipment for repair or transportation.
- Grind and file machinery parts.
- Supervise construction workers when using the equipment
